One of the common problems among children is bed wetting. There are various ways to treat bed wetting. Bed wetting alarm is considered quite effective device to stop bed wetting in children. One of the main reasons is it instantly detects wetness. That’s indeed help to wake up children in order to urinate in the toilet. In other words, this alarm system trains child in recognizing the sensations that cause urination. Besides, it is very safe device without causing any side effects to children. Most important, wet alarm systems address the condition in the long run.

There are several types of bed wetting alarms available in the market. It is usually a clip-on type that attaches to a child’s mattress pad or pajamas. It works by set off an alarm to wake the child up when it sense wetness. Such device is designed based on the principle of behavioral conditioning. If your child has problems keeping his bed dry at night, it helps a child to wake up and urinate in the right place. As a matter of fact, it is wise to invest in moisture alarm system as it trains kid in response to full bladder. Of course, this device may not tackle the problem instantly. However, it can certainly save you from the embarrassment as well as exhaustion that come from your kid’s condition.

The following tips will help you in finding a good moisture alarm with the right price tag.

Bedwetting Alarm with Pad

1. Internet is the faster source to get handy information on certain products. Browse through some customer reviews on the popular bedwetting alarm brands. You will be able to get some ideas based on actual experience of customers. Those feedbacks will definitely help you to search for the quality product with reasonable and affordable price.

2. The features of the moisture alarm could be one of the main considerations you need to think of when choosing a right moisture alarm. First thing first, take note on how the alarm is attached. It is normally attached to kid’s pajamas or underwear. But, some system might come with special underwear. Anyway, the type of alarm system you buy depends on your kid’s preference. After all, your child is the one who wears it. Some kid might prefer to use his own underwear. On the other hand, some kid may like to have a built-in sensor so that he doesn’t have to run through all the hassle for placing the sensor correctly. You better choose pad type alarm especially if your kid child prefers to lie on the sensor instead of using it on the underwear.

3. Select an alarm which will emit the loudest sound so that your kid can easily respond. It would also be wise for you to purchase an alarm that comes with volume control.

4. Seek for alarms with vibrating feature. In fact, sound alone may not be enough to awaken your kid when the necessity to urinate arises. Vibration will definitely boost your kid’s response to the alarm. However, the vibration from the alarm will only be effective when it is the same as a gentle shaking of the shoulder.

5. You can still make sensible use of a moisture alarm even your child is a deep sleeper. The parents must play an important role to wake up the child as soon as the alarm sets off. You are advised to get the one which produces loud enough sound for you to hear. For your information, wireless alarms produce louder sound if comparing to wearable alarms.

Bed wetting treatment by employing moisture alarm is for sure to be safe and. In order for you to finally say goodbye to wet and sleepless nights, make sure one purchase the one that matches all your and your kid’s needs.

There are different causes of bed wetting, it is not just something your child would do to get into your nerves. These are night time accidents that could happen even with the best potty trained children. Some would say that children would outgrow bed wetting, but there are some parents who are anxious to help their children get over with them. Bed wetting could interfere with your child’s social activities like attending slumber parties and camps. Aside from interfering with social activities, it could also affect the child’s confidence and esteem.

Within the age of five years old, about 20% of children still wet their beds. For parents and children, it is important to know that this is a common problem and not just a problem with your child. Doctors and medical professionals would often stress on the fact that bed wetting is not intentional and your child is not to be blamed with the situation. Some parents or family members approach bed wetting as a big problem or issue which adds to the pressure and stress on the child.

Child’s self-esteem affected by bedwetting

As mentioned, bed wetting could have an impact on your child’s confidence and self-esteem. There are debates about this relation, however, there are also medical researches showing that bed wetting management was able to help in improving the child’s self-esteem. Children and adolescents acknowledge that bed wetting could be a stressful event in the family. Bed wetting closely follows divorce and parents fighting as a family problem according to children and adolescents.

Some children who suffer from bed wetting or nocturnal enuresis can get punished by parents, teased by siblings and other relatives, and tend to keep it as a secret from friends for the fear of getting embarrassed or ashamed. There are also studies showing that children tend to develop behavioural problems that are often associated with the stress and the low-self esteem of children with nocturnal enuresis. Children could feel guilty or withdrawn especially if they sensed that they have no control over the problem.

Behaviour problems could even manifest in the schools. There are studies showing that children suffering from bed wetting tend to be more aggressive and project a poor self-image. These children may also have problems paying attention in class, get lower grades and overall performance in school.

A child who wets the bed may consider this night time incident as a big time problem. As a parent and family members, it is important to downplay this problem. Stress caused by bed wetting may even worsen the incident. Constant assuring is important. Children may feel that they are the only ones who experience bed wetting in their age. Assure your kid that what he is experiencing is a common problem. It is just that children may be embarrassed to talk about it. You could even share a story of another family member who also had trouble with bed wetting but was able to get over it. Assure your child that you will be with him all the way.

There are studies showing that children who have problems with bed wetting often would say that the best thing about staying dry will be participating in sleepovers and camps. This may make your child feel isolated. And feeling isolated is never good for anyone.

Bed wetting or nocturnal enuresis is among the most common problems that pediatrics face from anxious and frustrated parents. About 20 % of five year olds would experience bed wetting. The rate gets smaller as the children gets older. Upon reaching 10 years of age, the percentage goes down to 5%. Even though some professionals and parents see bed wetting as a passing problem, about 2 to 3% of children who continuously bed wet do so because of medical problems.

There are several causes of bed wetting. Primary nocturnal enuresis or bed wetting since infancy can be attributed to two most common causes. It could be a neurological-developmental delay or these children are just delayed in developing their ability to stay dry and control their bladder. Meanwhile, there are also studies showing that bed wetting could also run in the family. If one of the parents is bed wetting until the age of five, there is about 45% that one of his kids will also experience that.

However, it is still not safe to rule out other causes. Genetic and developmental delay can be the most common causes but they cannot be identified immediately. There are different causes which can be detected by series of exams which is why, it is important for some parents to go to a doctor first.

Many causes of child bedwetting

Here are other causes of bed wetting:

Diseases and infections. About 5% of bed wetting is caused by infections and disease, urinary tract infection is the most common.

Physical abnormalities. There are some individuals who actually have a smaller bladder and lesser bladder capacity. Children’s bladder may not be developed enough.

Constipation. Too much pressure on the bladder like constipated bowels can cause urination.

ADHD. Children with attention deficit hyperactivity disorder or ADHD have 2.7 times of higher possibility for bed wetting to happen.
Drinks. There are some drinks that causes more urine like caffeine and alcohol consumption.

Hormonal imbalance. There are some children who do not develop anti-diuretic hormone or ADH. This hormone slows down urine production.

Sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is an obstructive sleeping condition, the individual finds it difficult to breathe and is obstructed while sleeping. Bed wetting is not the only sign or symptom of sleep apnea, it could also include snoring, sore throat, and even daytime drowsiness.

Food allergies. Although, the link is not properly established and may require additional research, food allergies can also be cause of bed wetting.

Psychological causes. There are some incidents that may trigger bed wetting among children and even adults. For example, a traumatic experience like an accident, sexual abuse, death or bullying.

Stress. Bed wetting could be associated with returning or secondary enuresis. Stress from family issues or other social events like divorce, moving to a new place, a new member of the family or death could be a factor for bed wetting to return.

Understanding what causes bed wetting would help you understand how to manage or cure your child’s bed wetting incidents. However, before you get any kind of medication or undergo any therapy, it would be better to get medical help. Through series of tests, doctors would be able to identify what causes you child to wet the mattress and later on, define a therapy suited for your kid.

Wetting the bed is indeed an embarrassing experience for most children. As it is not a subject that your child is going to want to discuss with his or her friends, this means that he or she is unlikely to realize that lots of children wet the bed from time to time, so it is nothing to be ashamed about.

Bed wetting, also known as nocturnal enuresis or simply enuresis, is a condition wherein bedwetter – children and even some adults have the inability to control urination while in their sleep. The result is that bedwetters end up wetting their bed and only realize that it has happened after they wake up in the morning. It is actually a common problem among children three years old and below.

Enuresis - common problem among children

After that time, kids develop the ability to control their urination and sometime even wake up in the middle of the night every time they feel like urinating. But unfortunately, there are other kids who may not be as lucky. They may still experience the inability to control or even feel that they are urinating during their sleep. Around 15 percent of kids may still experience bed wetting after the age of three.

Studies have shown that boys are more likely to wet their beds than girls. Enuresis has also been found to run in the family. Bedwetters who have parents with a previous history of bed wetting when they were young are more likely to also develop the problem. Bed wetting usually stops by the time children reach the age of puberty.

In kids, bed wetting rarely is associated with a kidney or bladder problem. The usual case is that some kids may develop bladder control at a slower pace than normal. But there might be possibilities that some cases may be caused by certain infections. That is why it may also be a good suggestion to consult with a doctor to determine the actual cause of bed wetting in kids just to make sure.

Some doctors also believe that certain cases of bed wetting may be rooted in certain emotional or psychological issues. A kid suddenly experiencing bed wetting after a certain period of dryness mat be a reflection of certain new fears and insecurities that the child may have. Certain situations such as moving into a new home, the parents undergoing divorce, or losing a loved one may sometimes affect children in such a way as to cause them to wet their beds at night.

It is also important to note that making children feel embarrassed or shameful with their bed wetting experience would not be an effective way to help them stop the habit. What it may do is developing certain insecurities as well as makes kids feel bad about themselves for bed wetting. Bear in mind that children do not wet their beds on purpose.

Instead of making their children feel ashamed and embarrassed, parents should try to encourage and express confidence in their children that they will eventually out grow this condition. Positive reinforcement would usually work better in trying to stop bed wetting in children.

Bed wetting is a condition wherein an individual can’t seem to control urinating especially when asleep. Known as nocturnal enuresis in medical terms, bed wetting usually affects kids during their developmental stages. The condition can also sometimes be seen in teenagers and will usually fade away in time. It can also be a problem that may affect older people who may have bladder problems or poor bladder control as a result of other conditions.

Common Causes

Bed wetting can be caused by a variety of things. The condition may commonly be caused by one or more factors. One of the more common causes involves the delay in the development of the ability to control their bladders. This is usually common among kids who seem to experience delays on their ability to control their bladders. This usually is not related other developmental problems and seem to occur commonly in children.

Another known cause of bed wetting may be related to genetics. Kids who have parents who experienced bed wetting while they were young also have greater chances of developing the same condition. Research has shown that there are certain genes associated with bed wetting and may be passed on to kids from their parents. Kids with parents who had enuresis when they were young are 77 percent more likely to develop the condition as compared to 15 percent for kids with parents who never experienced bed wetting.

Disease and Infection

Although genetics and developmental delays are two of the most common causes of bed wetting, doctors are not as fast to rule out other possible causes that may also be considered as serious. Poor control of the bladder can be due to certain infections in the urinary tract.

Certain physical abnormalities cause bed wetting

Physical Abnormalities

Sometimes bed wetting may be a result of certain physical abnormalities such as a smaller than normal bladder. This usually leads to lesser bladder capacity than may contribute to bed wetting in some people when they sleep at night. There are times when the body produces insufficient anti-diuretic hormone. This is especially more common in kids. The anti-diuretic hormone usually increases its production during night time, signalling the kidneys to produce less urine. This process usually is developed at around the age of ten.

Psychological Issues

There are times when the root cause of bed wetting may be psychological in nature. Extreme stress may be a factor in some people experiencing enuresis. Certain psychological disorders may also have enuresis as one of their symptoms. There are also studies that have found that people with certain mental handicaps also have a higher rate of bedwetting problems.

Other Factors

There are many other factors that may cause bed wetting in some people. Chronic constipation is one of them. There are times when pressure is exerted on the bladder at times when the bowels are full which can lead to enuresis. Alcohol and caffeine consumption may also cause bed wetting since they can help increase urine production when taken.

In fact, a lot of adult around the world facing similar problem at night – suffering from night time wetting. There are several reasons that lead to adult enuresis.

Adult bedwetting could be categorized as secondary nocturnal enuresis. Bed wetting have two types: the primary and the secondary. Primary enuresis would refer to bed wetting since infancy which is common among kids.
Hormonal
The anti-diuretic hormone produced by the body is responsible in sending signals to the kidneys to produce less urine. The production of this kind of hormone increases during night time. If the body does not produce enough ADH then the kidneys will still produce urine. Diseases that commonly affects the production of ADH is diabetes.

Muscular
There is a muscle in the bladder called the detrusor. The detrusor contracts to negate the urine. However, this could be unstable especially if the body is exposed to different bladder irritants like caffeine and alcohol.

Psychological
An adult could experience physical shock or trauma that could lead to triggering of enuresis. Emotional distress could also be a reason. This kind of cause or situation is often times, the easiest to treat.

Natural Aging
Aging reduces our body’s control over muscles, sending neurological signals can be slower, reflexes are also slower. Bladder control among older adults could be a problem.

Adult bed wetting could deeply affect a person’s confidence, esteem and their relationship. Because of the fear of getting embarrassed and ashamed, adults who suffer from enuresis tend to hide their condition. It is important to encourage the adult sufferer to open up and talk about their problems. Dealing with these fears would help them get medical help. Normally, fear of getting embarrassed about bed wetting, prevents them from seeking professional and medical help. Family and friends are very important at this stage.

Bedwetting is definitely a headache for parents. In reality, bed wetting among children is not something uncommon. According to statistic, near to 20% of the kids at five still wet their beds at night. However, this figure will start to reduce to half by the time they reach their age of six. As a matter of fact, about five to seven million children fail to urinate in the toilet. Interestingly, the studies show that there are less girls wet their bed compared to boys.

There are different causes of nocturnal enuresis or bed wetting. But its most common causes are neurological or developmental delays and family history. Medical reasons are least common but possible causes. There are also studies showing that bed wetting can also be caused by stress. Although, stress is not the identified cause of primary enuresis or bed wetting since infancy, it could be attributed with secondary enuresis or reverting to night time wetting.

Emotional neglect could cause bedwetting

Children have different ways and methods of adapting to changes in their social relationships and environment. The changes could be minor or major, but these changes could be stressful to kids. Stress could happen if there is an additional member of the family like a new baby. Moving to a new home, bullying, divorce, and even death could cause stress among children.

Aside from these situations which could put stress to a child, emotional neglect could also be a cause of bed wetting. If a child is neglected or lack emotional stability, nighttime accidents could happen as response to the stress and anxiety.

If you have determined that stress has caused the child to return to bed wetting, then you would be able to address the issue. Once you have identified that stress is the reason, then talk to your doctor if getting your child see a psychologist would be suitable for the situation.

However, never assume that just because your child reverted to nighttime accidents means that he is under stress. There could be incidents in school and at home but may not be the reason. It is always safer to check with a doctor first, to get rid or overrule medical reasons.

If stress is indeed the cause of bed wetting, then you could also ask help from the members of the family. The family could show the child that they are there to support him or her. Enlist everyone in the family to help in guiding the bedwetter in the evening to avoid bed wetting. Bed wetting could interfere with some social activities, however, letting your child participate in some overnight activities could actually help and encourage your child to pursue with the night time training.

There are some experts who have pointed out that bed wetting could be a “vicious” cycle. If stress causes the child to wet the sheets, this could also cause serious stress to the parents. Stressed out parents could distress children more and even make the situation worse. There are studies showing that punishing and shaming children because of bed wetting could actually, increase nighttime accidents. This would eventually lead to more punishment and shaming. This could cause serious problems with the child’s confidence and self-esteem.
